Song of the Fireflies is a story so real and so raw it’s no wonder I couldn’t put it down. Haunting and beautiful from start to finish, and all the while you’re constantly asking the question, “how much more can happen to these two?”Meet Bray: With her over the top personality, an inability to love born out of fear, she’s flawed. “I’ll say it again: I was fu***d up. It was as simple as that.” The reality, she’s bi-polar, yet Bray calls it “just one of those things.” It’s easy to ignore when those that are supposed to love you unconditionally turn the other cheek, make excuses for your erratic behavior and chalk it up to rebellious behavior, as if they’re ashamed of you. Those emotions, or lack thereof, can distort how one feels about themselves. It has definitely affected Bray.
Meet Elias: He loves Bray unconditionally and has since they were young. “Perfect. Beautiful. She could never shatter my image of her no matter what she did.” Their connection is undeniable. His love for her is fierce, and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for her. “My whole body was consumed by emotion, a desperate need to make her understand how much I loved her without having to say the words.”
Song of the Fireflies is so well written, with characters so well developed, that you can feel the emotions radiating from the pages. A love story you don’t want to miss.

Song of the Fireflies edition by J A Redmerski Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Wow,what a wild ride. As a huge fan of the Edge of Never, I picked up this book without knowing anything about the story, I only knew that Andrew and Camryn would be making a cameo appearance.
Bray and Elias met as children and grew up best friends, Bray was pretty much ignored by her family and suffered from benign neglect. She seemed like the wild child but really she was afraid to form bonds or attachments to people because she didn’t understand that the other people could actually care for her.
Elias was in love and devoted to Bray no matter what. This New Adult book contained some pretty spicy sex scenes but I felt they fit in with the story of the young characters as they grew and explored the world and their relationships.
A shocking event occurs and Bray and Elias find themselves on the road. Many adventures ensue, and they meet up with another group young wanderers. I never thought there would be a HEA to this story based on their almost daily physical struggles and Bray’s battle with bipolar disorder. depression. Elias would never leave a Bray no matter what, so it was difficult to see how there would be a satisfying conclusion to this book, but there was.
I read several very negative reviews of this book and I don’t agree at all. This book has enough drama, emotion and sexy times to satisfy any fan of New Adult books. Even though the ending seemed bleak at one point, I was very happy to see Bray and Elias get the ending they so deserved.
Though this book didn't get many good reviews it did not stop me from wanting to read one of JA Redmerski's books.
I have to admit it was not your typical anguish tormented banter loving romantic love stories. In fact it was a love story about ultimate love for one another and how far one person would go or rather stay with their one true love.
Talk about soul mates and unconditional love Elias and Bray were it. It just took them awhile to come to terms with how to handle it as with other things going on in both their lives.
Though many people didn't care for this book I kinda enjoyed it the authors writing as always was very good, the story didn't hold back any punch lines or sugar coat what was going on with the two characters and yes some of it wasn't daisies and roses, but in life sometimes things don't always pan out the way you'd like and s*** happens which happen more when it came to Bray then it should of, but in fairness she was sick and if the problem was felt with earlier on I'd say the story would of been cut short. All in all I hated the ugly side of the story, but enjoyed it anyway.
Song of the Fireflies is one of the grittier books I've read in a long time. It's gritty in the sense that the actions of the two main characters were hard to read at times and left me feeling a bit exposed. Yet I simply couldn't put it down!
This is the story of Bray and Elias, very secondary characters in the two Edge of Never books. They are part of the group Camryn and Andrew meet in Florida and end up getting roofied by while hanging on a secluded beach. It's Bray and Elias who leave with them since they are so furious about that turn of events.
Bray and Elias has been best friends since childhood. Both want more in terms of a relationship, yet when Elias finally declare his love for Bray, they end up breaking up rather quickly and she then flees Georgia for South Carolina with a good friend.
4 years later, Bray returns, and goes back to Elias. However, their happy reunion is cut short by a tragic accident. One that Bray inadvertently caused. Our couple decides to go on the run instead of facing the consequences. They have run ins with both savory and caring individuals and have to figure out what will happen next. Can they keep running? Can Elias give up his future for Bray? And will they survive getting caught?
This book takes you on the ride of your life and completely captivates the reader like nothing I've ever read before. The heartbreaking journey Bray and Elias endure both in the present and in the past, through flashbacks, is mesmerizing at every turn. Their undying love and devotion even when faced with dire consequences, is truly beautiful. Elias has such faith and unconditional love for his girl yet he is strong and thoughtful with his actions. He is never portrayed as a weak man. On the contrary, he is simply devoted and would do anything in his power to save Bray. And he always has.
This is a hard read. But the bumpy road traveled to get to the very satisfying conclusion is worth all the angst. Jessica Redmerski gave us a well written and incredible book. I cannot recommend it highly enough. A huge 5 stars from me!
